Where are You?
Tonight's the Night....or Not
Board member Jim Shelly shares:
I have just re-read the first six books of Patrick O'Brian's 16-book long Aubrey/ Maturin series: Master and Commander, Post Captain, H.M.S. Surprise, The Mauritius Command, Desolation Island, and The Fortune of War. This will be my third time through the whole series. Why? Because O'Brian creates, recreates, a completely believable world of sailing ships and the events of the Napoleanic era. He's leagues beyond any other tales of the sea.
Board member and Storytime storyteller Kathy Hunter suggests:
The Sudden Country, by Karen Fisher. A novel of the Westward movement, beautifully, poetically written. Karen Fisher taught at SFT and did a year-long. She has Nez Perce horses.
Cutting for Stone, by Abraham Verghese. A gripping story of twin boys and the trials of a doctor in Ethiopia. The author is a genius!

2012 Read-a-Book Ball: Stay Home and Join Us!
It’s time for Fishtrap’s third annual Stay Home and Read a Book Ball! This fun event provides a great excuse to stay home in your PJ's, curl up with a good book and support your favorite literary non-profit. Try out a new author, pick a best-seller, choose a classic or re-read an old favorite, and tell us about it! Post a comment here or on our Facebook page. Check in regularly to see what others are reading – you might be inspired. Then, think about what you’d spend on an evening out: dinner, drinks, coffee and desert, a movie, gas, a new outfit, babysitter. Total that up, and click the button on the right to make your tax-deductible donation. No heels, no stockings, no ties, no crowds. You save time and energy, while enjoying a quiet evening at home, and your support allows Fishtrap to continue providing creative programs to nourish the literary community. It’s the best event you WON’T attend!
Not sure what to read? We are celebrating 25 years of Summer Fishtrap this July. Consider choosing a book written by keynote speaker David James Duncan or one of our talented workshop faculty. Here are some ideas:
The Brothers K, David James Duncan
